What I knew and what I've learnt.

What I know about Anne Frank - She was a young Jewish girl in hiding during the war against Germany. A woman named Miep Gies was hiding her. She wrote a diary about her experiences hiding during the war. Unfortunately, she didn't survive the war as she was found and killed by Nazi soldiers. I knew her diary was later made into a book for people to read and learn about what she went through.

What I learned about Anne Frank - Anne Franks full name was Annelies Marie Frank. She was born on June 12th 1929 and died in Feburay/March 1945. Her diary was about her family's 2 years of hiding during the german war. After Annes sister, Margot was taken to a force labour camp the franks dicided to go into hiding. The date was July 6th 1942. They hid in the backroom office of the Otto Frank's food-products bussines and with the help of their no-jewish friends who brought them food. After a while the Frank family was transported to Westerbork, a transit camp in the Netherlands. From there to Auschwitz on September 3, 1944. Anne and Margot were transferred to Bergen-Belsen the following month. It was established by the Dutch government that both Anne and Margot died in a typhus epidemic in March 1945.

After Anne passed and the war had ended Annes father found her diary. The book was puplished on June 12th 1947 and has been puplished in over 60 different languages.

What I know about the Holocaust - I know that the Holocaust took place during the war. It was a plan to kill off all Jewish people. The Holocaust happened between 1933 and 1945. I know that very few people survied. I know that gas chamber were used to kill Jewish people. I know that they were starved and used for work before they were killed. I know that the condions that Jewish people were kept in was disgusting.

What I learned about the Holocaust - I learned that the total number of Nazi concentration camps that existed at one point in time is at least 1,000, although these did not all exist at the same time. The holocaust was a mass murder of millions of European Jews (as well as millions of others, includi.ng Romani people, the intellectually disabled, dissidents and homosexuals) by the German Nazi regime between 1933 and 1945. To the anti-Semitic Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, Jews were an inferior race, an alien threat to German racial purity and community.

What I know about Miep Gies - I know that Miep Gies helped hide that Franks during the Holocaust.

The freedom writers.

 The freedom writes.

For the last three periods in English, we have been watching a movie called freedom writers. It is an amazing move about a teacher putting in a major effort to help a classroom of troubled students find their potential. In the beginning, all the students in the class hated each other. there was a war between races and gangs, so none of them wanted to be anywhere near each other and were constantly fighting. Miss G set up activitys so the students could all see that in most ways they are the same and are living the same lives just on different sides. The teacher, Miss G was working two extra jobs to make a bit of extra money to buy her student the resources they needed to succeed, she had to buy her own resources because the school would not give her students the books or resources they needed to learn because they simply didn't believe in them. But Miss G believed that these kids could do great things.

Miss G brought all of her student's diaries, for them to write about their lives and talk about what they have been through. She gave them the option to let her read the books so she could get a better understanding of what the kids were really going through. All of her students left the diaries for her to read.

The students started with learning about the holocaust as none of them knew what it was. Miss G and the class raised the money for the class to be able to go to a holocaust museum, where they all learned very important things. They then went on to read the diary of Anne Frank. The diary of Anne Frank was inspiring to the students. A lot of them saw the lady who hid Anne Frank a hero.

All of the students wanted to meet the lady who hid Anne Frank. So they fundrased and wrote her leaters.
