Passion Projects

The passion Project I chose was wearable arts.

I learned that its more then just making a costume or a dress, it is using old peaces of through away rubbish to create something beautiful.

The part I enjoyed the most was when I got to watch everyone do the cat walk to show off there costumes.

Something I disliked was not being able to create a whole costume because I started Passion Projects later then everyone else.

Next time I would chose something different because wearable arts just isn't my thing.

Overall I thought that it was a great thing to try to see if I was into it or not, but next time I think I might chose something else.

EOTC week overall thoughts!

EOTC week thoughts

over the last week the year 8s have been going to there EOTC week activity's.

From Wednesday 28th of November and Tuesday 4th December we were at the Omaka scout camp grounds doing water activity's, fire building and fun sports games. It was so much fun and the leaders were so nice and funny.

On Tuesday 26th we were at the Rehua Marae and then we went to the Canterbury museum.

I had visited that Marae before so I knew what was going to happen. I had also already been the he museum before but I still really enjoyed looking at some of the new exhibits. 

On Thursday the 29th we went to adrenal forest and spencers park. I went through courses 1, 2, 3, 3b and 4. All of them were pretty scary. I really didn't like the flying foxes because I'm quite short so I had to jump on one of them to attach my clipper. It was a really good experience and I hope to go again.

In one work I would describe camp and unpredictable because you never knew what was coming next and there was always a fun activity around the corner.

My favourite activity was probably the high ropes at adrenal forest, although they were scary I felt very good about myself once I got back down to the ground.

My favourite memory was probably just getting to hangout with a good group of friends and just overall having a good time!

Year 8 EOTC week.

On Thursday November 29th  the year 8s went to adrenalin forest and spencers park for one of our EOTC week activitys. we were split up into 2 groups, in my group I had a lot of my friends which was good because that way I had lots of support on the high ropes. I had so many favourite parts but the best part was probably the feeling of getting back to the ground after being on the high ropes. I found most of it challenging as I am quite short and with some of the courses you have to reach up to attach the safety clickers to the wires and with some I had to jump.

My biggest accomplishment of the day was getting through 5 courses.

EOTC week!

EOTC Week

In class at the moment we are doing EOTC week activity's before we go on camp.

We can chose between 12 different activity's. This is my second activity. This time I chose to answer Questions about Cath Brown and about the Marae Ngāti Moki  .

Questions:

1) Where did Cath Brown grow up? What roles did she hold?

She grew up in Taumutu. She was a member of the marae and then held positions as a chair of Te Taumutu Rūganaga and Upoko.

2) What type of art did Cath make? How do you know she was successful at it?

weaving . I knew she was successful because it said she was one of the most respected artists Māori in new zealand.

3) Where is the marae located? What does the land around it look like?

The marae is located in Taumutu. There is a beautiful ocean in the background of the marae and you can hear the roar of the waves crashing down.

4) What does mahinga kai mean? What do you think they ate?

It means food source and maybe seafood and they animals that the land provided.

5) What is Ngāti Moki Marae built on?

Ngāti Moki marae is built on the site of Te Pā o Moki

6) What is the Awhitu House?

It was where very important events were held.

In cyber smart we have been challenged to blog through out the summer holidays as it shows that it can help improve your learning or keep your learning up.

EOTC week

Today for EOTC week I chose to do the history of Omaka scout camp and make a timeline with all the main events written in order.  Omaka scout camp has a great range of activities like flying fox, water slide, river tubing, feeding eels, blind trail and many more fun activities,

Class pet!?!

In our class we got given $150 ( not real money ) to " spend " on a class pet. Me and my group  chose a goldfish to " spend " our fake money. the total that our goldfish spending came to was $109. 

I was hoping to spend it on a dog but sadly it was to mach. Hopefully we can get a real class pet soon.

In my class we have been writing to letter to a teacher about why we think we should or should not have fitness. I have chosen that we should not have fitness. in my letter you will see why i have chosen to not have fitness as I have put in three reasons of why I think we should stop fitness.

Dear Mr Mitchell

I’m Izzy from 8Bh, I’m writing to you about my reasons to not having fitness. I’m not here to offend you on your idea about having fitness just to share my opinion. I feel as though fitness should stop or should be optional. I do not hate fitness but I don’t love it either. I know lots of kids do not like fitness but this is my input on the fitness or no fitness debate.

Here are a couple of my concerns

• It is a hassle to get changed in and out of our P.E gear.
• Some kids might not have eaten.
• It takes up learning time.

It is a hassle to get changed.I feel like having to get in and out of P.E gear is just a hassle. Especially if they have P.E last period that means they have to get changed twice. Also not everyone has full gear or any gear at all and that can cause them to get told off even if it isn’t their fault and they can’t get a note.

Some kids might not have had breakfast.Some kids may not have gotten the chance to get any food in the morning which can lead to a lack of energy when doing fitness and that can cause for them to be called on if it looks like they aren’t trying even tho they are doing their best. Most of the time you are not allowed to sit of the side for a breather or to just have a break.

It can take up our learning time. I know we only do fitness for 15 - 30 minutes but that is a lot of time to be missing out on. I know that some teachers say that coming in after fitness your brain should have more energy to just get started but when people come in from fitness they are very silly and acting up and that can create a lot of distraction in the class for everyone else.

It looked like a cute dog before she had no idea how it turned into the monster, Like what happened to its cute ears. Now its a wolf like monster with huge fangs and big ugly pointy ears. Today I did my reading on what my previous knowledge was on Matariki and they I had to read a text about Matariki then answer some short questions about what I know now after reading the text.

Here is what I knew about Matariki before reading the text

Matariki is the celebration end of the lunar year and the maori new year. There are 7 sister or 7 stars that rise up at early hours of the morning. The sister all have names, they are Tupa-a-nuku, Tupu-a-rangi, waiti & waita, Waipuna Rangi and Ururangi.

I haven't gotten to answer all the questions yet about what I know now. I will update you when I have.

Writing Recount

My Recount

This Is my recount. Over the past couple weeks we have been working on writing a recount. I choose the time my little brother was born. It was a funny and heart filled 48 hours.

The day my little brother( MJ) was born. It was the 23rd of June. In Christchurch Women's Hospital is where my mum gave birth to Mj. I wasn’t there because I was at the farm with my uncle Terry.

First my mums water broke. I honestly thought she was going to die but she told me that she wasn’t going to. She asked me to grab her phone so she could call the midwife. They agreed on a time to meet at the hospital. My dad was at work at the time so he didn’t know. She backed her bag and all us kids packed ours.

On the way to the hospital mum dropped us off at the farm where our uncle Terry lived. Mum said we had to stay with him. If we were good then we would get ice cream so I was on my best behaviour. I was a bit scared for mum but I knew she was going to be fine.   

Then my mum gave birth. Before she left she told me that everything was going to be fine and within 48 hours I will have a little brother. I was pretty excited that I was going to get the day off school. I guess getting a new brother was cool but I didn’t really like the thought of it as I knew he would take all the attention because my brother said thats what happened with me. I was only 6 so I didn’t know what to think about a new baby.  I don’t know what time but she had Mj by the next day so we got the day off school! My dad said that she was screaming a lot.

Finally me and my siblings got to meet our new  little brother. I mean he was cute and all but I just wanted to take a nap. He wouldn’t stop crying so it was pretty hard.

I mean MJ is a great brother and all but I would really like my place in mums bed back as he kicked me out!

Reflection:

I think that I created an interesting piece of writing because… I used my resources to help me make it better. I made sure that I used my raw feelings to make it more funny.

Hugo cabret

Hugo is a young boy that father has passed away in a fire. He had to quit school to help his uncle with the clocks at the train station. He doesn’t like to steal things but sometimes he has to so he can survive. There is this machine that his father worked on. His father had drawn every single part in machine in a notebook. This man almost burns Hugo's book but doesn't and now he is making Hugo work for him. That is as far as I have gotten in the book.

That is what Hugo the main character has been upto so far in the book!

Another reading task!!

I was asked to make a book cover of a book that I was reading. At the time I was reading a tom gates book ( such good books). This one was tom gates TOP OF THE CLASS. one of my favourites. So I made a very colourful book cover using google drawing.

Meaning of my name. Whats the meaning of yours??

My name is Izzabella burnessa dyson and here is how that came to be….

When my mum first feel pregnant with me my father and brother would do this thing were my dad would say ‘ Izzabella Izzabella’ and my brother would say ‘ monaca monaca cea’ now I have no idea why they would say this and I couldn’t find any means. I couldn't get ahold of my father to ask and my brother didn’t know what I was talking about. There were lots of names over the 9 months like… Lilabella, lillyan, harmony and rosan. When I was born mum called me lillyan but the next day she realized that it didn’t suit me and after a long while my brother said ‘ Izzabella ‘ Everyone agreed but at the time my mum didn’t really like it. Everyone told her the that it would be shorted soon enough and they were right. At the time grey's Anatomy was pretty big and on the show there was a character called Izzy and as time went on my thought that this was a call nickname for me. My father called me bella but I alway liked Izzy better. At about Six my uncle named his dog bella so only my father and one of my brothers calls me that now.

Jesus Christ Superstar is a Rock opera so that means that everyone is singing there is no talking just singing.

Wicked is a musical with singing, dancing and talking. Its about a good witch and a bad witch.

 Moana.  Yesterday we had a moana practice for our up coming show. I am one of the main singers. 

So far the show looks like it is going to be amazing.

Today I wrote a letter to the author of my book.

I wrote to the author Brian Selznick about his book The Invention Of Hugo Cabret.

I told him how I have read his other book wonderstruck. I told how his books send me into a different place like I was in the book and that I was Hugo and that I was going through what he was. I 100% think you should check this book out or any of his book as they are amazing. 

Name video response.

On Thursday my class watched video about names and how hard it is for people the come into a place were we speak English and there name is in Japaneses or mandarin.  Most of the time people change names to an English name to avoid people trying to say there real names and messing it up. I think everyone should have there real name be shown and that they should be able to say it loud and proud without having to worry about someone saying it wrong or being rude / Racist over there name. Everyone deserves to use there real names and be proud.

This is my art work. As you can see I have done shading, sketching, name designing and drawing people. 

To make this happen we have used pencil, paper and help from our teacher and her site. 

Our teacher taught us how to sketch and shade, How to make it look like the light is coming  from different angles and how to draw an outline of someones body.

For me somethings worked and somethings didn't. Like shading worked for me, but I couldn't get a hold of the drawing people. Designing my name wasn't to hard, but I couldn't really get sketching the outline of the body.

What Makes A Strong Community?

What makes a strong community?

A strong community is everyone coming together in a times of need. You can have a strong community by making it litter free place. Having a strong community is being able to trust everyone. You should have a strong community at home and and school. Communicating is key in a strong community. A strong community is working together.

At the end of the day I think that Hornby High School is a strong community.

My roles and responsibilities at HHS are…

A role is to be a kind and helpful student. I can do that by helping everyone. One of my responsibilities is to show up to school on time. I can do that by setting an alarm or getting someone to wake me up.  Another role is to be a role model for younger students. I can show this by doing the right thing, showing them what it takes to be a good student and encouraging them to be the  best they can be. One of my last responsibilities is to take every opportunity I get. I can do that by just doing it!!

Over all it is important that I show all the C.A.R.R values at all times.
