Film Analyses

 The Lorax - Unless scene.

Brainstorm: In this scene we see all of the animals and wildlife leaving the empty treeless field looking sad and disappointed. We then see the Lorax fly away into the sky looking extremely sad.

Lighting: Natural, dim, cold, lighting used to show a sad cold place. Bright light beamed down to the Lorax as he floated into the sky.

Colours: Colour pallet - dark blues, browns, grays. Colour used to create a cold, dark, sad atmosphere.

Film analysis.

Brainstorm: A fox was trying to buy a jumbo pop for his son from an elephant worker and the elephant said no. A bunny police officer then stepped in and paid for the jumbo pop and took it to the fox and his son.

Techniques:

Colour:  Bright lighthearted scene, amid at children so it has bright colors.

Lighting: Warm, natural, bright, daytime, hot sunny day, Fox and bunny in the spotlight - everyone else in the shadow.

Camera: High and low angles were used - the elephant is taller, the elephant feels bigger, the elephant is more superior, not meant to like the elephant as he is bigger and meaner. Elephant uses an angry tone while speaking. low angle from the foxs POV and high angle from the elephant's POV.

S- Statement - In the popsicle scene, low-angle shots are used to show the imbalance of power between the characters.

E - Evidence - We see this when the elephant is talking to the fox. The low-angle shot is used to show how much bigger and stronger the elephant is compared to the fox.

X - Audience - This makes the audience feel bad for the fox because he doesn't get served because he is not an elephant and because he is small.

X - director - The purpose of this is to introduce the idea of stereotyping to the viewer. appearing large and rough the elephant shopkeeper refused service because he is a fox. Strengthening is the elephant's quote "go back to your side of town".

X - other technique - Combined with the use of low-angle shots, we see the differences in the characters rather than the similarities. The high-angle point of view makes the fox seem even smaller than elephants towering over him.

Y - Your link/real-life link - Issues like this where people are judged on their size, race, or religion are not isolated to this film. In the real world, we tackle ongoing issues of discrimination in every country even in 2021.

Sweet tooth - Ending scene.

Brainstorm: In this clip you see a younger hybrid boy sitting alone in a dark room and then a whole lot of other hybrids come up to him and welcome him with a hug.

Techniques -

Colour: Dark color palette , Sad scene

Lighting: Cold, Natural light, Light shines on the hybrids when they come out of the shadows, light was streaming in from cracks in the celing to show poor conditons.

Camera: Wide angle used to show the group of hybrids standing together as one. Low angle Pov used to see how the deer hybrid sees the group walking towards him.

Analizing film.

Brainstorm: The two were talking. she told him to go away because he didn't belong there.

The seeds of the sacred tree choose him.

Techniques -

Lighting - was artificial, bright - dim. The plants that they touched and the ground they walked on lit up, the background was dim, cold.

Colour palette - Neon, green, blue, purple. Colors used to show the extreme difference between earth and where they are.

Camera - shots - angles - movement- focus. Tilt shot used to show the seeds (POV). Conversation - mid shots, shows bodies and the distance between them. Close-up on seeds,  shows how they moved.

S - Statment - In the scene ' seeds of the sacred tree', Lighting was effectively used to create an otherworldly experience of Pandora.

E - Evidence - Artificial bright light is seen as the figures run on and touch things in the environment. The rest of their surroundings remained dark against these flashes of cold neon light.

X - Explanation - Audience - This makes the audience feel amazed and envious of the natural and unearthly qualities of the planet.

X - Explanation - Director - The director did this to make the viewer feel like they have been transported to another world, where new and exciting plants exist.

X Explanation - Other techniques - Coinciding with this is the use of a neon color palette. The blues, greens, and purples become vibrant and unworldly when combined with the artificially bright lights caused by movement.

Y - Your Link - The lighting and color are juxtaposed to that which we experience in the real world on earth. Like earth, it has trees, plants, and native people but we see them vastly different from us because of the bright artificial neon lighting.

Scene 'The hide and clap scene'

Brain storm: In the 'Hide and clap scene', the lady heard a noise in the basment and went to check it out. She ended up falling down the basment stairs and getting stuck down there.
